About

I made the image above to try to persuade my eldest that he should do his laundry. Ignoring it and hoping he would do the obvious had not been effective. Neither had nagging (see image). So Mom Humour (only a fraction of a step up from Dad Jokes) was my last ditch attempt to get him to take action before I went crazy.

I include it here to make clear that we are a fairly normal family. We muddle along in busy lives getting some things right and some things wrong. The house is reasonably clean and tidy (public spaces more so than bedrooms - guess who is responsible for which bits). On the whole we get along quite well. And occasionally we don't. Nothing in our lives will ever end up on Pinterest.

Why tell you all this? I've set up this website as part of my training for ministry. It's a project and a challenge to myself and a record of events. I have felt frustrated that it can be difficult to 'do faith at home' and I have heard the same from other parents. So this is a 9 month experiment in imperfect, unPinteresty people trying to convert faith to action in the home. With kids who don't want to go to church and aren't sure what they believe. With busy lives that leave little time for just being, let alone building Easter Gardens.

My hope and prayer is that by experimenting we will find disciplines that work for us as a family. I'm putting this in a public place because it keeps me accountable and because I hope it will be helpful to others as well. If you try anything - or have other, better ideas - do leave a comment so we can learn from each other. We do better in community, whether that community is our family or another constellation of support people. As an aside, I'm learning as I go how to build a website.

The project will unfold in time and I have therefore chosen to follow the pattern of the Church Year for experiments on different themes. The home page is a blog recording our experiences with occasional reflections. There's an work in progress list of useful websites under Other Resources. More is generated by Wix and is meaningless for this website. Expect imperfection - and God to be at work through that!

May my words here and in the family, the meditations of all our hearts, and our experiments in following the way of Jesus be inspired by the Holy Spirit and bring glory to God the Father.

PS The meme worked and the laundry got done without me saying another word about it :)
